Ecker, born in 1955, studied economics at the Ludwig MaximiliansUniversity in Munich and graduated in 1981 with a business degree. In the mid-nineties he started again at university with musicology and music pedagogics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main and was awarded a doctorate with the thesis about Franz Krommer's wind ensemble music in 2001. For many years Heinz Ecker has been working in the consultancy sector. As trained clarinet player he moreover has been playing music in a professional symphony orchestra and devoted himself to wind ensemble music with his own ensemble for many years.
