In his doctoral thesis (magna cum laude) »Franz Krommer's wind ensemble music. Attempt of a critical stock-taking, with thematic catalogue« at the Musicological Department of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main (thesis supervisor Prof. Dr. Adolf Nowak, year of publication 2001) the author, Heinz Ecker, first of all surveys in volume I the genre wind ensemble music, especially from a etymological-terminological and historical-sociological point of view. This is followed by a short biographical abstract of Franz Krommer and by pointing out the specific and characteristic features of his wind ensemble music. The main part of the critical stock-taking of Franz Krommer's wind ensemble music is completed and rounded off in volume II by  a thematic catalogue with incipits of the main part and incipits of all movements of a work in full score, by summaries of all manuscripts and early prints sorted according to different criteria, as well as by the description of selected manuscripts and of all early prints.

The text (volume I) comprises 266 pages, the thematic catalogue with further supplements (volume II) 433 pages. The thesis is written in German and not available in English.
